Inner Attitude Series

The Work & Yat Malmgren

YBC has developed a new approach to the Psychology of Movement, the acting technique developed by Yat Malmgren, who trained some of the finest actors in England. This work starts in the body and yields unexpected discoveries about the self through the principles of Carl Jung, Rudolf Laban and Stanislavski

Character Transformation Intensive

For working actors and new LA students who prefer an in-person environment. Students will gain insight that they can apply immediately to their on-screen or on-stage work. (Saturday Workshops throughout the Year)

This workshop will introduce participants to a unique 'toolkit' of exercises and approaches that create a path towards Character Transformation. This work starts in the body and yields unexpected discoveries about the self, using the principles of Movement Psychology developed by the YBC team and Tom since his training with Yat Malmgren, and building upon the work of Carl Jung, Rudolf Laban, Konstantin Stanislavski, and Uta Hagen.

During 6 intense and joyful hours, participants will gain insight and skills that can immediately be applied to their artistic work:

The Swings – Physical exercises to develop the inner and outer lives of the performer.

The Spheres – Psychophysical exercises to uncover the energies within and without. Find and trust your inner essence in order to unfold that energy with confidence.

The Reservoirs — Four foundational pillars of personality and character: Thinking, Feeling, Sensing and Intuiting.

Active, Embodied Choices — Connect to bone-deep impulses that take you along unexpected routes.

Discovering how character is revealed through both inner and outer movement.

Creating from a place of known truth to experience unknown truths.

Inner Attitude Yat Series

Once a month, for a period of eight months, our Yat Series comes to LA to teach ongoing classes on Thursdays and Fridays. Each class series will cover one of the Inner Attitudes and their variations. While these Inner Attitudes involve deep personal work they are immediately applicable to the character transformation of the professional actor. If you attend each of the eight two day sessions you will cover all six inner attitudes.

In addition, on the Saturday following classes, YBC will be offering a full-day Intensive for performing artists to be introduced or refreshed on the practical sensations of the Yat/Bentley method.

If students are familiar with a particular Inner Attitude they will advance directly to creation of character from the Inner Drives of the variation.
